Junior high diving championships cancelled over low interest
European Aquatics will reassess the event to reduce financial risk for Budapest’s hosts.
Source publication date:
European Aquatics cancelled the junior high diving championships scheduled in Budapest on 17 and 18 June. The federation said likely participation was below expectations and that an early decision would reduce financial risks for hosts preparing an event with limited entries.
In a letter to national federations, European Aquatics linked the decision to the championship’s purpose of strengthening the junior pathway. It said meaningful engagement and competitive value were necessary, while the crowded international calendar also needed to be considered.
The federation plans further consultation with members and potential hosts before relaunching the event under more sustainable conditions. It reiterated support for high diving across age groups and retained its planned senior championship programme as part of the summer European Aquatics Championships in Paris.
