Karlsson wins Lahti classic race despite mid-course stumble
The Swede finished 4.1 seconds ahead of Linn Svahn as Diggins placed third.
Source publication date:
Frida Karlsson recovered from a stumble around halfway to win the women’s ten-kilometre classic interval start in Lahti. Her time of 25:57.6 put her 4.1 seconds ahead of Swedish teammate Linn Svahn, with overall World Cup leader Jessie Diggins taking third.
Svahn had set a strong early pace, while Diggins was only one second behind her at the halfway split. Karlsson continued the form that followed her Olympic titles despite illness having prevented her from starting the Games’ final fifty-kilometre race.
Dariya Nepryaeva finished fourth, ahead of Heidi Weng and Jonna Sundling. Finnish veteran Krista Parmakoski completed her last career race in twenty-eighth place before a home crowd, adding a retirement farewell to the women’s programme at Lahti.
