Frida Karlsson won the Olympic women’s 10-kilometre plus 10-kilometre skiathlon in Tesero, leading a Swedish one-two ahead of Ebba Andersson. Karlsson completed the race in 53:45.2 and finished fifty-one seconds clear of her teammate.

Karlsson broke away with five kilometres remaining after Andersson had helped set the early pace. Norway’s Heidi Weng recovered ground in the freestyle section to take bronze, securing the final place on the opening cross-country podium.

An early collision involving Jessie Diggins and Karoline Simpson-Larsen interrupted both athletes’ races. Diggins eventually finished eighth and Simpson-Larsen thirteenth. Karlsson’s comfortable winning margin allowed her to take a Swedish flag from spectators before crossing the line as Olympic champion.
