Kate O’Connor won pentathlon bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Poland with an Irish record of 4,839 points. She became the first Irishwoman to claim two world indoor medals, adding to the silver she won the previous year.

O’Connor finished forty-nine points behind champion Sofie Dokter, who scored 4,888, and twenty-one behind Anna Hall’s silver-medal total. Her closing 800 metres took 2:10.26, a personal best that secured her position on the podium.

Earlier marks included 8.23 in the sixty-metre hurdles, 1.81 metres in the high jump and a 14.70-metre shot-put best. She then reached 6.38 metres on her final long-jump attempt, keeping the medal within reach before the concluding race.
