Chester announced that Kevin Roberts would retire from playing after the home match against Darlington on March 7. The 36-year-old was preparing to take a full-time physiotherapist position with an EFL club after combining medical work with his playing responsibilities.

Roberts had made 235 appearances for Chester since returning in summer 2019, placing him third on the club's post-reformation list. He completed a physiotherapy degree at the University of Salford in 2022 and had worked in the medical department for four seasons.

His wider career included more than 600 appearances, two FA Trophy wins and playoff promotions with Cambridge United and Halifax. Manager Calum McIntyre praised his professionalism and contributions both on and off the pitch.
