Kibiwot breaks women’s course record at Rome Marathon
Kenyan victories headline a race that draws 36,000 runners to the Italian capital.

Pascaline Kibiwot won the Rome Marathon in a women’s course record of 2:22:44. The Kenyan improved the previous mark by eight seconds after moving clear beyond 25km, finishing ahead of Ethiopia’s Genet Tadesse Robi in 2:24:55.
Aberash Fayesa Robi placed third in 2:25:42. Sara Carnicelli was the leading Italian woman, thirteenth in 2:40:29. The race welcomed 36,000 runners, starting near the Colosseum and finishing at the Circus Maximus.
Asbel Rutto repeated his 2024 men’s victory with 2:06:32. He beat fellow Kenyan Henry Kichana Tukor by four seconds, with Lencho Tesfaye Anbesa third in 2:07:44. Luca Parisi led the Italian men in seventeenth place at 2:22:45.
