Kiplimo runs world-record half marathon in Lisbon
The Ugandan’s 57:20 lowered the recognised mark by ten seconds.
Source publication date:
Jacob Kiplimo ran a world-record performance of 57:20 at the Lisbon Half Marathon, subject to ratification, improving the official mark by ten seconds. The performance bettered Yomif Kejelcha’s 57:30 from Valencia in 2024 and followed Kiplimo’s third world cross-country title earlier in the year.
Kiplimo had previously set a world record of 57:31 in Lisbon in 2021. FIDAL noted that his faster Barcelona performance from 2025 had not been ratified by World Athletics, leaving the new Portuguese performance ten seconds faster than the official benchmark.
Tsige Gebreselama won the women’s race in 1:04:48, ahead of Janeth Chepngetich and Regina Wambui. Italy’s Greta Settino finished thirteenth with a personal best of 1:12:33 in her first road race of the season.
