Source publication date:
Kaiya, Mika and Akina Kizuka described how work, university and limited coaching shape their alpine snowboard careers. A new FIS interview explored the different routes that brought the American sisters together in World Cup competition, alongside the practical costs of travel and equipment in a lightly sponsored discipline.
Kaiya lives in Europe and combines full-time employment with training, including Olympic weightlifting. Mika competes without a coach while pursuing her career, and Akina studies at Ohio State without belonging to a snowboard team, relying on opportunities around her academic schedule.
The sisters highlighted advice and transport support within the family. Kaiya’s experience helps the younger riders navigate racing, while all three said interests beyond snowboarding support both their identities and future careers.
