Klaebo matches eight-gold Olympic record
The Norwegian won the men’s freestyle interval race ahead of Desloges and Hedegart.
Source publication date:
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the Olympic men’s freestyle interval start race to claim his eighth career gold medal. He matched fellow Norwegian Bjørn Dæhlie’s total, while France’s Mathis Desloges won silver and Norway’s Einar Hedegart took bronze.
Hedegart stayed close through the middle of the race but struggled over the final kilometre. Klæbo controlled his effort before accelerating on the last hill, earning his first victory in a ten-kilometre freestyle interval start at the Olympic Games.
Norway also placed Harald Østberg Amundsen and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget fourth and fifth, ahead of Britain’s Andrew Musgrave. Desloges secured his second silver of Milano Cortina after finishing behind Klæbo in the skiathlon earlier in the programme.
