Klaebo opens Olympics with skiathlon gold
The Norwegian won his sixth career Olympic title in the men’s skiathlon.
Source publication date:
Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the Olympic men’s 10-kilometre plus 10-kilometre skiathlon in Tesero. The Norwegian finished in 46:11, two seconds ahead of France’s Mathis Desloges, while Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget took bronze for Norway.
Klæbo remained with the leaders through much of the race before accelerating on the final hill. His decisive move separated him from the group and allowed him to celebrate along the finishing straight while his rivals contested the remaining medals.
Desloges received a penalty after cutting a corner through course cones at 13.3 kilometres, but retained silver. The victory gave Klæbo his sixth career Olympic gold and a winning start to the men’s cross-country programme at Milano Cortina.
