Hilary Knight and Alina Muller represented the United States and Switzerland as flag bearers at the Olympic closing ceremony in Verona. Their selection gave women’s hockey a prominent role after both players helped their countries win medals in Milan.

Knight captained the American team to gold in her fifth Olympic appearance. Muller scored Switzerland’s overtime winner against Sweden in the bronze-medal game, completing a tournament recovery after illness had disrupted the team’s participation in the opening ceremony.

The closing event took place at the Arena di Verona, the ancient Roman amphitheatre chosen for the finale of the geographically spread Games. Knight described the role as representing her teammates and wider supporters, while Swiss officials praised their hockey team’s resilience throughout the competition.
