The eighteen-year-old outsprinted Hagen at Lahti’s first women’s large hill Gundersen.
Source publication date:
Minja Korhonen won her first individual Nordic Combined World Cup at Lahti, becoming the first Finnish woman to achieve the feat. The eighteen-year-old resisted Ida Marie Hagen’s late attack in the five-kilometre cross-country race, with American Alexa Brabec finishing third before a supportive home crowd.
Brabec had led the jumping round with 125.5 metres and 122.9 points. Korhonen followed on 121.5 after reaching 122 metres, starting only six seconds behind, while Hagen began fifty-six seconds back after placing fourth on the hill at Salpausselkä.
Hagen rapidly closed the deficit and led by three kilometres, but Korhonen stayed with her to win the final sprint. The Finnish skier became the second woman to win a World Cup before nineteen, following Katharina Gruber earlier in the season.
