Vincent Kriechmayr won the men’s downhill in Courchevel, his first victory in the discipline that season. Italy’s Giovanni Franzoni finished 0.09 seconds behind, while Marco Odermatt took third at 0.31 and secured both the overall and downhill World Cup Crystal Globes.

Odermatt’s closest Swiss challenger Franjo von Allmen failed to finish after errors on the difficult course. Variable conditions also contributed to Alexis Monney’s fall and broken ski, causing an interruption before the race could continue through the remaining competitors.

The result gave Odermatt a fifth overall title, matching Marc Girardelli’s total, and a third consecutive downhill crown. Kriechmayr’s experienced run and Franzoni’s continued podium form completed the leading group on a demanding slope late in the Olympic season.
