Johannes Lamparter won the provisional competition round ahead of Nordic combined’s first ski flying World Cup event at Kulm. The Austrian flew 220.5 metres for 217.9 points despite officials lowering the start gate by two positions for his attempt.

Thirty athletes from nine countries participated in two training rounds and the provisional round on the HS235 hill. For many, it was their first experience of a ski flying venue rather than the smaller large hills normally used by the discipline.

Lamparter had already reached 232 metres in the opening training round, setting an early marker on home snow. Ilkka Herola emerged among the leading challengers as the athletes completed preparation before the first full ski flying competition the following day.
