Late Faroese equaliser leads to youth shootout
Estonia and Bosnia won development-tournament penalties.
Source publication date:
The Faroe Islands earned their first point in a UEFA under-16 development tournament after Andrew Poulsen equalised against Estonia in the 91st minute. The match finished 1-1 before Estonia won the penalty shootout 4-3 to collect the additional available point.
Estonia had taken the lead midway through the second half and appeared close to a narrow victory until Poulsen’s late intervention. The development format required a shootout after a draw, leaving the Faroes with one point despite rescuing the level score.
The same round also produced a 3-3 draw between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland. Iceland recovered from three goals behind, but Bosnia won the shootout 4-2. The final round would pair Bosnia with Estonia and the Faroese hosts with Iceland.
