Lavin takes eighth Irish indoor hurdles title

Her 8.07 victory led a championship day that also produced first and returning sprint champions.

Sarah Lavin won her eighth Irish senior indoor 60m hurdles title in 8.07 on the opening championship day at Abbotstown. Kate O’Connor finished second in a personal best of 8.21, moving to third on Ireland’s all-time list, while Orlaith Mannion took bronze in 8.45.

The men’s hurdles title went to Adam Nolan in 8.03. Sophie Becker secured her first national indoor 200m championship with a 23.43 performance, and Mark Smyth won the men’s 200m in 21.11 to claim his third title.

Athletics Ireland’s day-one report brought together the championship results from the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena. The programme continued on Sunday, with the opening day establishing the first champions of the two-day national meeting.
