Lecanu announces new professional direction in Paris
The French judo presenter marked the end of a federation chapter while remaining involved in commentary and outreach.

Frédéric Lecanu addressed the Paris Grand Slam crowd as he closed a twelve-year chapter working on technical presentation and entertainment for French judo. The former competitor explained that he was moving toward a new professional direction while continuing as a consultant and commentator.
Lecanu’s connection with the Paris arena spans several roles. He volunteered at the 1997 world championships and earned a bronze medal as an athlete at the 2005 tournament. His later work helped deliver ceremonies and audience activities at the international event.
The IJF profile also described his outreach tours to clubs, schools, hospitals and care homes. Lecanu reflected on balancing professional commitments with family life and dedicated his sixth-dan recognition to his wife and supporters. He said his continuing work would remain connected to judo’s educational role.
