Manchester secures international climbing return for 2027
The January agreement brought lead, speed and para lead competitions back to Great Britain.
Source publication date:
World Climbing and the British Mountaineering Council announced a Manchester World Climbing Series event for June 2027. Lead, speed and para climbing lead were included in the proposed competition programme.
The hosting agreement involved Manchester City Council and UK Sport alongside the two climbing bodies. It would bring the circuit back to Great Britain for the first time since Edinburgh hosted a Lead World Cup in September 2022.
Exact dates and the venue remained unconfirmed when the announcement was published on 16 January. The report therefore records the hosting decision, rather than treating an unspecified competition date as a completed event.
