Marche reaches first major semifinal in Chicago
ElSherbini and El Hammamy also progressed during the opening Windy City quarterfinal programme.

Gregoire Marche reached his first major semifinal by defeating Marwan Elshorbagy in an eighty-two-minute Windy City Open quarterfinal. The thirty-five-year-old Frenchman won 12–10 in the deciding game after the pair shared four demanding games filled with long rallies and changing momentum.
Nour ElSherbini also needed five games against Sivasangari Subramaniam. The Malaysian led 4–1 in the decider, but ElSherbini recovered to win 11–8 and maintain her Chicago title defence.
Hania El Hammamy defeated Tinne Gilis in straight games during the same programme. The world number one withstood a first-game recovery and won five consecutive points from 9–6 down in the third to complete another major semifinal qualification.
