Source publication date:
Mitch Marner scored at 1:22 of overtime to give Canada a 4–3 Olympic quarter-final victory over Czechia. He took a pass from Macklin Celebrini, split the defence and finished with a backhand shot to secure Canada’s semi-final place.
Canada trailed twice and lost captain Sidney Crosby to an injury during the second period. Nick Suzuki supplied the late equaliser in regulation. Celebrini contributed a goal and two assists, while Nathan MacKinnon scored and Connor McDavid assisted twice.
Lukas Sedlak, David Pastrnak and Ondrej Palat scored for Czechia, which led with under four minutes remaining. Canada finished with a 41–24 shot advantage, but the contest provided a much closer test than its three preliminary victories and ended Czechia’s medal challenge.
