Mboko beats Anisimova for fifth career top-ten victory
The Canadian reached her first Indian Wells quarterfinal without losing serve.
Source publication date:
Victoria Mboko defeated Amanda Anisimova 6–4, 6–1 to reach her first Indian Wells quarterfinal. The seventy-three-minute victory was the nineteen-year-old Canadian’s fifth career win over a top-ten opponent and fourth such result during the current season.
Mboko saved the only break point she faced and converted all four of her own opportunities. She committed only seven unforced errors, struck fourteen winners and won thirty-five of sixty-nine points on Anisimova’s serve during an efficient fourth-round performance.
The win delivered Mboko’s third WTA 1000 quarterfinal from seven appearances and made her the fourth Canadian woman to reach that stage in Indian Wells. She advanced to face Aryna Sabalenka, who had defeated her in the Australian Open fourth round earlier that year.
