Mboko saves match point to defeat Andreeva
The Canadian reversed January’s Adelaide final result and reached Doha’s quarterfinals.
Source publication date:
Victoria Mboko defeated Mirra Andreeva 6–3, 3–6, 7–6 in the Doha third round after surviving a match point. The two teenagers met for the second time that season, with Mboko reversing the result of their Adelaide final and claiming her first tour victory against Andreeva.
Andreeva held match point while serving at 5–4 in the deciding set but double-faulted. Mboko recovered the break and later built the first two-point advantage in the tiebreak with an angled backhand passing shot.
The Canadian completed victory on her third match point with a backhand winner. It was her third top-ten win and secured a second WTA 1000 quarterfinal, where she would face Elena Rybakina.
