McGregor and Wilkie named Canada’s Paralympic flag bearers
The honourees will be celebrated in their villages while athletes prioritise competition preparation.
Source publication date:
The Canadian Paralympic Committee selected Tyler McGregor and Natalie Wilkie as its opening ceremony flag bearers for Milano Cortina. McGregor, Canada’s Para ice hockey captain, was preparing for his fourth Winter Paralympics, while Para Nordic skier Wilkie was heading into her third Games.
The committee also confirmed that Canadian athletes would not travel to the ceremony in Verona because the journey from their competition clusters would disrupt preparation. McGregor and Wilkie would instead be recognised in their respective villages alongside their teammates.
Both athletes were scheduled to begin competing on 7 March, the day after the ceremony. McGregor held three Paralympic medals and Wilkie seven at selection. Canada’s team comprised fifty athletes, with the Games running through 15 March.
