Cairns and Jack McVeigh exercised the mutual option in his contract, confirming the forward’s return for the 2026–27 NBL season. McVeigh had joined on a two-year agreement after spending a season with Houston and its G League affiliate.
The Olympian led Cairns in scoring at 21.7 points per game and rebounding at 6.2, while contributing four assists. He said the welcome his family received, relationships with teammates and staff and the opportunity to build the club’s future supported his decision.
Taipans chief executive Mark Beecroft praised McVeigh’s character, professionalism and competitive influence. The February announcement settled his availability for another campaign before Cairns completed its current regular-season fixtures, giving the club a confirmed central player around whom to plan.
