Meillard wins Olympic men’s slalom gold
The Swiss world champion completed a three-medal Games ahead of Gstrein and Kristoffersen.
Source publication date:
Loïc Meillard won the Olympic men’s slalom in Bormio, completing his Milano Cortina collection with a gold medal. Austria’s Fabio Gstrein claimed silver, while Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen earned bronze in the final men’s alpine event.
Meillard was leading when the last starter, Atle Lie McGrath, failed to finish. That outcome confirmed the Swiss skier’s victory and removed the Norwegian from medal contention after he had carried a strong position into the second run.
The reigning world slalom champion added Olympic gold to the silver and bronze medals already won at these Games. His successful final event capped a championship in which he reached the podium three times, with the slalom title completing the set.
