Source publication date:
Melbourne United defeated Cairns 89–85 despite losing Shea Ili to injury and playing without head coach Dean Vickerman. Assistant Rhys Carter led the team, while Chris Goulding also spent the closing stages on the bench with a knee problem.
Milton Doyle scored 25 and Tyson Walker 17 as Melbourne outscored Cairns 33–25 in the final quarter. Walker’s late scoring sequence helped secure the result after the Taipans had led for much of their final home game of the NBL season.
Jack McVeigh led Cairns with 25 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jesse Edwards collected 13 rebounds for Melbourne before fouling out. United improved to 19–12, preserving its pursuit of fourth place ahead of the remaining home fixtures against Illawarra and South East Melbourne.
