Niemeyer wins first senior Grand Prix gold in Lima
A counter against Fanny Estelle Posvite decides the -78kg final.

Germany’s Mathilda Sophie Niemeyer won women’s -78kg gold at the Lima Grand Prix in her first senior season. She defeated the experienced French judoka Fanny Estelle Posvite in the final.
After Posvite blocked Niemeyer’s uchi-mata threat, the French athlete attacked with osoto-gari. Niemeyer reacted with a counter for waza-ari, the decisive score that secured her first Grand Prix title.
Colombia’s Brenda Olaya won bronze by countering Karol Gimenes in golden score. Guinea’s Marie Branser took the other bronze against returning world champion Madeleine Malonga, scoring a late yuko and defending the advantage.
