Daniele Accogli reaches his first World Judo Tour final and takes silver.
Source publication date:
Gennaro Pirelli beat compatriot Daniele Accogli in the men’s -100kg final at the Lima Grand Prix. Second-seeded Pirelli converted his strong season into another title, while unseeded Accogli reached a World Judo Tour final for the first time.
The cautious final was decided when Accogli received a third penalty after the contest went beyond regulation time. Italy therefore secured both gold and silver in the category.
Brazil’s Leonardo Goncalves won bronze against teammate Giovani Ferreira with a waza-ari. Japan’s Yuta Kasai earned his first World Judo Tour medal by scoring twice with sasai-tsuri-komi-ashi against France’s Fares Mekhoukh.
