Melbourne targets Ili return for elimination play-in
Vickerman hoped for a limited contribution from the guard against Tasmania.
Source publication date:
Melbourne United aimed to have Shea Ili available for its elimination play-in against Tasmania on 5 March. At the February finals launch, coach Dean Vickerman said the guard was progressing through rehabilitation and had another running assessment scheduled.
Ili had played only ten games and 160 minutes during an injury-disrupted season. His latest low-grade left hamstring problem occurred against Cairns on 12 February, leaving Melbourne without the former defensive player of the year during its remaining league fixtures.
Vickerman said a contribution of twelve to fifteen minutes could provide valuable support and rest for Tyson Walker. Selection remained conditional on Ili’s readiness, with the coach stressing that the club would assess his progress before confirming participation in the match that would determine whether United’s season continued.
