New Zealand cleared Sam Mennenga and Karim Lopez to return for its final regular-season game against Cairns and the Ignite Cup final against Adelaide. Mennenga had fractured his wrist in January, while both players completed a full week of training and medical testing before selection.
Basketball operations president Dillon Boucher said their rehabilitation had given the medical team confidence in a return. Mennenga was averaging 17.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, and Lopez 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds during career-best seasons.
The Breakers also announced that Izaiah Brockington would miss the Cairns fixture with a hip flexor injury. Development player Tukaha Cooper was activated, while Tai Webster’s calf strain left him subject to a game-time decision.
