Runner Mike Barnes described plans to complete three marathons in two weeks at the age of seventy-four, including London alongside daughters Emily and Harriet. The family will raise money for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of his eldest daughter Laura.

Barnes first ran a marathon at seventy and has continued with half marathons, full marathons and an ultra-distance event. A previous fifty-kilometre run on Tiree raised one thousand pounds, supported by fellow runners and members of the island community.

His daughters will be making their marathon debuts, with the family intending to stay together and finish hand in hand. Barnes credited local RunTogether groups with providing encouragement and belonging, while recognising that recovery would be important during the planned sequence of races.
