Mikkelsen extends Faroese under-21 coaching agreement
The new deal runs through the end of 2028.
Source publication date:
Ólavur Mikkelsen extended his agreement as Faroe Islands under-21 coach until the end of 2028. The federation announced the new contract after his first European qualifying campaign began with victories over Estonia, Iceland and Luxembourg before subsequent defeats to stronger group opponents.
The Faroese side had beaten Estonia 2-1 at home, Iceland 2-1 in Reykjavik and Luxembourg 1-0 away. After six matches it held nine points, occupying second place behind France and narrowly ahead of Switzerland and Iceland at the announcement date.
Mikkelsen described the job as challenging and exciting and welcomed the federation’s decision to continue the partnership. The team was preparing for its next qualifier against Switzerland at Stockhorn Arena in Thun on 27 March when the extension was confirmed.
