Muchova edges Mboko to reach first Miami Open semifinal

Karolina Muchova defeated Victoria Mboko 7–5, 7–6(5) to reach her first Miami Open semifinal. The one-hour-forty-seven-minute quarterfinal repeated their Doha final result a month earlier and improved the Czech player’s season record to eighteen wins and three defeats.

Muchova faced only two break points, saving both with a wide serve followed by an overhead. The second was also a set point at 4–5 in the second set. Her only service break came late in the opener after Mboko lost a 30–0 advantage.

The Canadian recovered from 4–0 down in the tiebreak and saved an initial match point. Muchova eventually finished with a delicate counter-drop shot at full stretch, securing her ninth career semifinal at WTA 1000 level or a Grand Slam.
