Source publication date:
Myanmar came from behind to beat Afghanistan 2-1 in an Asian Cup qualifying match in Yangon. Syria had already secured the Group E finals place, but the victory confirmed Myanmar would finish at least second in the final round.
Afghanistan opened the scoring after a poor clearance from goalkeeper Sann Sat Naing. Omid Popalzay converted a rebound, but Myanmar equalised before the interval when Than Paing met Wai Lin Aung’s low cross in the centre of the penalty area.
Afghanistan enjoyed greater control during the second half but missed several chances. Myanmar instead found the winner against the run of play when a cross was diverted towards Khun Kyaw Zin Hein, who finished into the top corner to secure the comeback.
