Nakamura header takes Machida into the quarter-finals
Machida Zelvia held Gangwon scoreless again to complete a 1-0 aggregate win.
Source publication date:
Machida Zelvia reached the AFC Champions League Elite quarter-finals after beating Gangwon FC 1-0 at home. Hotaka Nakamura’s first-half header decided the second leg and the aggregate score following the teams’ goalless meeting in Korea Republic.
Na Sang-ho’s cross found Nakamura, who moved past his marker and headed in off the post. Gangwon had started positively, while goalkeeper Park Chung-hyo later prevented Na from adding another goal before the interval.
Kosei Tani made a double save after half-time to preserve Machida’s lead as Gangwon searched for an equaliser. The Japanese club also missed chances to extend the margin but held firm, continuing an ascent that had taken them from the domestic second division to continental knockout success.
