Nieto and Sanz win another three-set match to reach Gijón quarters

Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz beat Alex Chozas and Tino Libaak 7–5, 3–6, 6–3 to reach the Gijón P2 quarterfinals. It was their second three-set victory during Nieto’s first tournament of the season after injury kept him out of Riyadh.

Their next opponents were Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger, who beat Tolito Aguirre and Alex Arroyo 6–2, 6–1. Coello and Tapia also needed three sets against Lijó and Arce. Edu Alonso and Juan Tello were the only men’s quarterfinalists outside the seeded pairs.

All eight leading women’s partnerships reached the quarterfinals. Josemaría and González beat Collombon and Montes 6–3, 6–2, while Sánchez and Ustero defeated Merino and Manquillo 6–4, 6–0. Brea and Triay progressed after Barrera and Velasco retired with the score at 6–1, 3–0.
