Noskova ends Gibson’s Indian Wells breakthrough in quarterfinals
The Czech recovered after losing the second set to the Australian qualifier.
Source publication date:
Linda Noskova defeated Talia Gibson 6–2, 4–6, 6–2 to reach her first Indian Wells semifinal. The world number fourteen secured her second career WTA 1000 semifinal, following a China Open run five months earlier, after her strongest tournament of the current season.
Noskova attacked Gibson’s forehand to build the opening-set advantage, but the Australian qualifier broke early in the second and held throughout to force a decider. The players combined for twenty-two aces, fifteen of them during that second set.
Noskova regained control with two deciding-set breaks and finished by breaking at love. Her thirteen aces helped offset ten double faults, while Gibson’s demanding route from qualifying ended after several major upsets. The Czech advanced to a semifinal against top seed Aryna Sabalenka.
