Nwaneri double keeps England U21s ahead in qualifying
A 4-1 victory over Moldova restores the Young Lions to winning form.
Source publication date:
England's men's under-21s beat Moldova 4-1 at Carrow Road to remain unbeaten in qualification for UEFA EURO 2027. Lee Carsley's side moved to 19 points in Group D, maintaining a three-point advantage over second-placed Slovakia after their previous draw with Andorra.
Ethan Nwaneri opened the scoring in the 11th minute, following up a saved Myles Lewis-Skelly effort. Moldova equalised through Vasile Luchita shortly after half-time, briefly threatening to turn England's territorial dominance into another frustrating result.
Archie Gray restored the lead with a shot off the underside of the crossbar. Nwaneri scored again in the 73rd minute before substitute Romain Esse headed in the fourth. England's next qualifier is against Kazakhstan on September 25.
