O’Connor’s long-jump record headlines Irish indoor finale

National titles and championship marks were decided before a sold-out Dublin crowd.

Kate O’Connor set a championship record of 6.50 metres to win the long jump on the final day of Ireland’s Senior Indoor Championships. The first-round personal best moved her third on the national all-time list, following an 8.21 hurdles best on the opening day.

Nick Griggs won his first senior indoor three-thousand-metre title in 8:14.52, while Louise Shanahan took the women’s race in 9:22.47. Sharlene Mawdsley secured a third consecutive four-hundred-metre crown in 51.89, and Sean Doggett won the men’s title in 47.33.

Cillian Kirwan set an eight-hundred-metre championship record of 1:47.68. Eric Favors added a shot-put record at 19.57 metres, while Kate Veale won an extraordinary tenth consecutive national indoor race-walk title.
