Officials prepare for England’s April age-group changes
Updated technical guidance covers hurdles, steeplechase and throwing implements.
Source publication date:
England Athletics issued guidance for officials ahead of new competition age groups taking effect on 1 April. The revised structure introduces under-twelve, under-fourteen, under-sixteen, under-eighteen and under-twenty categories, replacing the previous under-thirteen, under-fifteen and under-seventeen model.
Officials are asked to review changed hurdle specifications, steeplechase distances and throwing implements. Printable reference documents are available, and the federation plans a compact notebook containing technical details for use at competitions.
The guidance stresses clear communication during equipment checks, call-up procedures and explanations of event restrictions. Under-ten and under-twelve participation includes non-rulebook multi-event formats such as funetics Multi-Challenge and Sportshall Athletics. Drop-in sessions and revised handbook material support the transition for athletes, clubs and competition providers.
