Oftebro wins Olympic normal hill Nordic combined gold
The Norwegian beat Lamparter by one second after recovering from contact during the race.
Source publication date:
Jens Luraas Oftebro won the Olympic Nordic combined normal hill and 10-kilometre Gundersen event in Tesero. He finished in 29:59.4, one second ahead of World Cup leader Johannes Lamparter, with Finland’s Eero Hirvonen earning bronze.
Oftebro and Hirvonen made contact after the halfway point of the cross-country race, sending the Norwegian towards the course barriers and briefly interrupting his progress. Both recovered sufficiently to reach the podium despite that incident in difficult, loose snow.
Oftebro attempted to break away on the final lap, but Lamparter stayed close until the finishing section. The Norwegian’s last climb created the separation he needed to win the first Nordic combined medal event of Milano Cortina.
