Oldham wins Olympic big air as Tabanelli makes Italian history
Canada won gold ahead of Gu, while Italy claimed its first Olympic freestyle skiing medal.
Source publication date:
Megan Oldham won Olympic women’s freeski big air in Livigno with 180.75 points. Eileen Gu took silver with 179 points, while Flora Tabanelli earned bronze on 178.25, winning Italy’s first Olympic freestyle skiing medal.
The final began seventy-five minutes late because of weather. Oldham combined scores of 91.75 and 89, while Tabanelli’s final left double 1620 received 94.25, the highest single-jump score of the night, and replaced her earlier lower mark.
Tabanelli competed in her first event since a November knee ligament injury. Oldham added gold to her slopestyle bronze, and Gu won a fifth Olympic medal. Mathilde Gremaud and Anouk Andraska withdrew after sustaining injuries during training before the final.
