Source publication date:
German goalkeeper Oliver Middell described the work behind his successful 2025 beach-handball season in a new EHF interview. His achievements included Germany’s first men’s European title and recognition as the season’s most valuable beach player at the federation’s Excellence Awards.
Middell plays for 12 Monkeys Köln and joined beach handball after moving to Cologne for university. Club teammates introduced him to the outdoor format, which became a competitive focus alongside the distinctive social environment he valued during summer training and tournaments.
He explained that instinct remains important when spin shots leave little reaction time, but that video preparation now supports decisions for both club and national-team appearances. The interview traced that development alongside individual goalkeeper awards and the collective improvement that culminated in Germany’s European victory.
