Oleksandra Oliynykova won her first tour main-draw match by defeating Mayar Sherif 6–7, 6–4, 6–4 at the Transylvania Open. The Ukrainian recovered from 3–1 down in the deciding set and won five of the final six games during a two-hour-and-fifty-four-minute contest.
The match featured extended rallies, changes of height and pace and repeated drop-shot exchanges. Oliynykova used high balls to push Sherif back before flattening her own strokes to create attacking opportunities.
She also described nearly missing her train after a power outage in Kyiv disrupted departure preparations. The opening-round victory set up a meeting with eighth seed Anna Bondar, who had recovered from a set down to defeat Ella Seidel.
