Padovan returns Italy to European javelin podium
Her 58.69-metre bronze ended an eighteen-year senior-medal wait in the event.

Paola Padovan finished third in the women’s javelin at the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia with 58.69 metres. The result gave Italy its first senior podium in the discipline at the competition for eighteen years and was her second-best career performance.
Padovan produced the decisive mark in round five. France’s Jade Maraval won with 60.02 metres, ahead of Serbia’s Adriana Vilagoš on 59.85. Former European champion Elina Tzengko finished fourth despite a final-round effort of 58.21.
In other Italian results, Sara Fantini placed fifth in the hammer with 71.01 metres and Rachele Mori tenth with 68.79. Sofia Coppari finished fourth in the under-twenty-three discus at 51.90, narrowly outside the medals during a cold and windy opening day.
