Sarina Wiegman selected 23 players for England’s April Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Iceland. Valadares Gaia midfielder Erica Meg Parkinson received her first senior call-up, while Beth Mead returned and injuries ruled out Aggie Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton and Ella Toone.

Twenty-one members of the group had featured in the opening qualifying victories over Ukraine and Iceland. England were scheduled to face Spain at Wembley on 14 April, their first meeting since the Lionesses retained the European title in the 2025 final.

The team’s visit to Reykjavik four days later was designated England women’s 500th fixture. Special activities across the two matches would recognise earlier generations of players, connecting the qualification campaign with a milestone in the national side’s history.
