Leylah Fernandez defeated Oksana Selekhmeteva 7–6(1), 3–6, 6–1 in two hours twenty-five minutes to become Pegula’s next opponent. The Canadian saved all five break points she faced in the decider, including four during a six-deuce service game for a 3–0 lead.
Fernandez converted both deciding-set break opportunities to secure a much-needed victory after beginning the tournament with a 2–7 season record. Pegula entered their planned meeting with a 17–3 record and quarterfinal appearances at eight consecutive events, highlighting their contrasting recent form.
