Pépé rescues Villarreal draw at Alavés
A 98th-minute equaliser earned Villarreal a point in Vitoria.

Source publication date:
Villarreal drew 1-1 with Alavés in heavy rain at Mendizorroza after Nicolas Pépé scored in the 98th minute. The visiting forward’s late finish rescued a point from a closely contested match that Alavés had led since late in the first half.
Toni Martínez’s backheel in the penalty area deflected off Rafa Marín’s head for the opening goal. Villarreal threatened before halftime through Santi Comesaña, but Antonio Sivera saved twice, and Pépé later narrowly missed the target during the visitors’ search for an equaliser.
An attempted defensive header also hit the post before Pépé finally broke through, entering the box and shooting into the top corner. Villarreal’s next fixture was scheduled at home against Real Sociedad on 20 March in the following league round.
