Phoenix second-half surge overwhelms depleted Breakers

South East Melbourne defeated New Zealand 114–83 at Eventfinda Stadium after a decisive second-half performance. The Breakers were without frontcourt players Sam Mennenga, Rob Baker II and Karim Lopez but remained level at 52–52 at half-time.
The Phoenix then outscored New Zealand 62–31 over the remaining quarters and forced 14 second-half turnovers. Ian Clark led with 23 points, Nathan Sobey added 21 and Malique Lewis contributed 13 points, ten rebounds and six assists as six Phoenix players reached double figures.
Izaiah Brockington scored 19 for New Zealand and Tai Webster 16. Parker Jackson-Cartwright was ejected following two technical fouls. South East Melbourne improved to 21–9 before facing Sydney, while New Zealand’s challenge for sixth became more difficult at 11–19.
