Pinturault announces retirement in Courchevel
Hintermann and Theaux also stepped away after long alpine skiing careers.
Source publication date:
Alexis Pinturault announced his retirement from competitive skiing at a Courchevel press conference, identifying Hafjell as his final competition. The thirty-four-year-old French skier’s career included thirty-four World Cup victories, seventy-seven podiums and the 2021 overall Crystal Globe, alongside three Olympic and eight world championship medals.
Pinturault said the decision followed his return from injury and had been made before it was disclosed publicly. He planned to retain his connection with Courchevel through family projects, while recognising the personal sacrifices associated with extending an elite sporting career.
Niels Hintermann also retired after recovering from lymphoma and reassessing racing risks. Adrien Theaux concluded twenty-two years of World Cup competition with 334 starts, thirteen podiums and three victories.
